Jewelweed Soap

This is a picture of the plant called Jewelweed. I have been wanting to find some for years. I'd heard it grew well in wooded areas, but I never found out what it looked like until a couple of weeks ago. Lo, and behold, the Lord has given me an abundance of Jewelweed in our 20 acres of timbers. There is so much of it, even our goats can't keep it eaten up!

This plant is a blessing, because it can be used as a cure and preventative against poison ivy! The milky liquid in the stems can be milked out, and rubbed on the skin. Also, you can boil the stems, and keep the liquid in the form of ice cubes for later use, when you need it.

I read somewhere you can use this jewelweed "tea" to make a good soap for poison ivy rashes. I then looked up other herbs to help, and I discovered that: aloe, yellow dock root, black walnut hull, and burdock root help with poison ivy too. Of course, we all know that oatmeal baths are good for poison ivy too.

Sooo, I'm thinking about making a soap with all these (or some of these depending on availability) herbs, and some oatmeal. I already made the "tea", and it's a beautiful red/orange color. I'm excited to see what color the soap ends up!
